| Vintage Plushies to Collect and Sell as Lots

It is totally crazy but I think I could write a book about old stuffed animals. I know my parents are so proud!
These are the things I collect in the stuffed animal bin that aren't really worth while to sell individually but I keep them in a rubbermaid container and sell them when I get to "lot" level.
Cabbage Patch Kids- we are talking the old school Coleco doll your gramma beat some other gramma over the head for 24 years ago. I don't really mess with collecting any of later editions.
Care Bears- Vintage bears used to be very good sellers- say 5 years ago. However sales have fallen off since the reintroduction of the toy by the Play Along company (brilliant folks did the same thing with the Cabbage Patch and Strawberry Shortcake and are making a fortune off "dead" brands). So, now I buy the vintage ones and throw them in a lot once I collect 6 or 8 bears and let people bid it out. Lots of vintage sell for $15-45. Although if you don't do your research and accidentally throw a bear worth something into the lot like Grams with her shawl who is worth $28-80 by herself then your lot could go for more.
Rainbow Brite- another doll line that used to be big money on Ebay but the Play Along people screwed it up by putting new ones on the shelf. If I see someone's old collection of Rainbow, some Sprites, horse. . . (read post) |

Every child of the 80s has fond memories of Christmas morning 1984 when under the tree was a Cabbage Patch for every boy and girl. Mom watched us with tears welling in her one good eye- the other blackened from the beat down she took unable to defend herself both arms wrapped tightly around your "Angela Marie" at the bottom of a pile of mommies in the Kmart toy aisle.
Ahhhhh memories.
Today mommy wouldn't have had to take the beat down.
She could have just spent 850 dollars on Ebay and bought one with your first name and eye color to boot.
So 20 years later, what is a Cabbage Patch really worth.
Well that depends.
Back in the 70's Mr. Roberts took a fascintation with used women's undergarments and built an empire.
His initial dolls were sold at craft shows and were 100% pantyhose nylon.
These early dolls were produced from 1978-1983. I was lucky to find a pair of these early uglies. I thought I had struck Goodwill gold.
How much do you think they sold for?
After listing them 3 times they at last sold for around 80 each. A good return on 59 cents, but not retire to a beach in Boca good.
Babyland General (yes it is a real joint you can visit on your next white trash road trip right after graceland) still makes these soft-sculptured dolls and sell them for $180-upwards of. . . (read post) |

If the Olympics should come to Chicago as Mayor Daley is hoping, I will contact the city's Olympic committee because I have the perfect idea for a new competitive sport. If the Olympic Committee gets a better gift bag from Tulsa and we are out of the running, I may contact NBC because my idea would also be a divine reality show.
If you watched the Atlanta Olympics you will remember the cheesy back stories about starving Eastern block mommies who sent their buxom baby off to shot put boarding school so she could have a shot at the good life.
Picture Chicago 2008, the cheesy camera fog parts and reveals the doors of Goodwill. It's 8:50 and the athletes are taking their positions, climbing out of all manner of hoopty and limping to the starting gate.
There's the Pall Mall Paul who talks through a hole in his throat but can jog like a pro when he spies anything that plugs in and was mad after 1989.
There's Grandma Jean who pretends to be checking everything over with her bifocals, but is actually switching price tags.
There are the religous chicks who always come in a herd and can never seem to satitate their thirst for ankle length denim skirts.
And then there is me. And just like them something happens to me once I get inside those doors.
I feel a rush of adrenaline and once my hands hit the handle of the. . . (read post) |
